Why Soup?!!!

Serve a soup.

Serve a good soup with your vegetables.  Made from homemade stocks and broths (like roast chicken stock, homemade beef stock, fresh chicken broth or even a broth made of chicken feet) Broths and stocks, made from the bones and meats of pasture-raised animals, is potently rich in trace minerals, glucosamine chondroitin, collagen and other nutrients.  Learn more about the benefits of broth.  All vegetables are suited to soups.  Begin your soup by melting a few tablespoons of fat in the bottom of a heavy-bottomed stock pot, stir in onion and fry until fragrant, then stir in vegetables (except greens) and fry them for a few minutes before adding stock.  Simmer the soup for at least a half hour until the vegetables are tender, then remove the pot from the heat, stir in greens and herbs, cover and allow the greens and herbs to cook in the residual heat of the soup for at least five minutes before serving.
Simple Ratio for a Good Soup: 1 to 2 tablespoons butter, ghee (see sources); 1 chopped onion; 1 to 2 pounds chopped vegetables; meat (as needed); 1 to 1 1/2 quarts stock or broth; fresh herbs and seasonings

Fresh Soup is Back!

Hello Pregnant Ladies and Breastfeeding Women,
Thank you for waiting and being patient with Organic Soup Kitchen and the BabyCarrots Program as we jumped over and around hurdles that came up with its kick-off month in February. I hope this post finds you all well and healthy as well as your growing baby.

Organic Soup Kitchen will have fresh quarts of soup again!  Mom's can go down to the Veterans Building (112 W. Cabrillo Blvd) every Wednesday 12p-3p and pick up some fresh soup.
Email  for now for a sign-up sheet if yo haven't filled one out, and if you have go down next Wednesday to the Veteran's Building. Anthony will be serving fresh soup every Wednesday 12p-3p.  There is a side entrance to the left of the building and the kitchen is  through the gate and straight back.
Also, just to spread the word to people that can afford to donate, OSK has a "monthly soup club" donation program.  For a monthly donation of a specified amount a donor can "purchase" a soup for themselves and one (or more) for a program of their choice.

Help spread the word, so that we can keep feeding pregnant and breastfeeding women!

Donate for sustainability today.

To keep BabyCarrots sustainable, we are requesting donations be made for BabyCarrots program.  We offer the soup to all pregnant and breastfeeding women at this point. Our primary target are those families who struggle to afford and have limited to no access to local, organic food. We want to be able to provide for all and have the funding to offer free services for those who need it.  Donations will go directly for cooking cost (kitchen facility, soup ingredients, canning supplies, chef) and programs needed to organize and distribute. Please take the time to donate online or a tax deductible check can be made out and mailed to:

Organic Soup Kitchen
315 Meigs Rd. Suite A, #369
